KNITWEAR WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
For assuring maximal, long-term use of your garments and knitwear, you should always act in line with the rules of basic care provided below. These rules apply to all natural, man-made and synthetic fabrics as well as any combinations thereof.
Machine WashReverse your knitwear and place one, or, no more than two or three knitwear items inside the washing machines, at a time, making sure of perfect colour match. (Never attempt to wash summer and winter cloths together.) Pour some shampoo or other industrial agent suitable for use with knitwear inside the detergent drawer of your washer, in doses specified. Set your machine to operate in wool washing program. Once it starts feeding in water, set temperature to 30 degrees. If your machine lacks a preconfigured setting or program for washing wool products by default, absolutely wash your cloths in hand. Once after the washing operation is complete, select and run a short mangling sequence, allowing the machine to discharge water as fast as possible. Do not leave your knitwear inside the machine, since this may cause wrinkling. Dry up your knitwear after pulling them out of the machine, as instructed in the section titled hand wash, hereof.
Ironing ProcedurePut your knitwear on a flat surface, over a pressing cloth, like cheesecloth and apply the iron slightly warm or, alternatively, just press and smoothen the fabric surfaces with steam iron. The use of a cloth will help your knitwear preserve its brightness throughout the ironing procedure and will prevent its getting affected by the overheat that may inadvertently build up.
Dry CleaningEntrust your knitwear to a qualified, reliable dry cleaning company, who would clean the same according to the washing instructions provided with them.
Diligent Care of Your KnitwearThe most important point that needs attention is that knitwear should be washed before they get very dirty and that you strictly follow the washing instructions, perfectly.
Hand WashHand wash is an effort-intensive process yet is proven to be effective for maintenance of your
knitwear for prolonged periods of time. Do not forget to reverse your knitwear from inside out before
the operation, in order to preserve the loose fibres on its surfaces. Make sure that your powder or liquid
detergent is completely dissolved, before you submerge your garments inside water and always pick and
wash one garment at a time, in the washing bowl. One important thing that calls for your attention here
is that coloured products may stain one another, when washed together
Thoroughly stir the knitwear washing shampoo in amounts as instructed on it, inside water heated up to a temperature of
30 degrees. Washing agents like shampoos designed exclusively for use with knitwear differ much in chemical composition
from other commercially available agents. They do not contain any dye-removers or harsh ingredients which may harm fibres.
Soak and hold down your knitwear for a short period of time in warm water, to let it get wet. Never keep your knitwear
in water for long periods of time. Wash your wetted knitwear by pressing down in and pulling out of water without rubbing,
for 2 or 3 minutes. If your knitwear does not contain excessive dirt, it will release its dirt fairly quick.
When washing is complete, thoroughly rinse your knitwear in warm water and after that, in running fresh water.
(Perfect rinsing prevents spreading of dye from your multi-coloured knitwear products. After rinsing, kindly grab
and wring the laundry to let it release all its water content. Never leave your knitwear wet and folded.
Leave your knitwear for drying in a properly ventilated location set apart from direct sunlight,
by spreading it at full length on a flat and smooth surface, without pulling or twirling, but shaping.
This drying procedure will render the subsequent ironing procedure easier. If you don’t have a proper
place to leave your knitwear for drying, you may consider hanging it on a tensioned strand of rope
assuring homogeneous distribution of its weight along it by aligning its body and arms at a central location.
Do not use pins to retain your knitwear in hanging position, for it may prove difficult for you to erase
their traces in time of ironing. Never use hangers for drying purposes. Drying on hangers and on strands
without assuring homogeneous weight distribution will cause your sweaters dangle. Iron your drying knitwear,
when it is still slightly moist..
Never use chlorinated whitening techniques.
Always use warm waterUse as much water as needed and frequently change the sides when rinsing.
-Submerge your garments in soapy water completely and wash gently without rubbing.
- Never wring knitted laundry. Otherwise they will loose their elasticity and become deformed.
-Never wring your knitwear when wet, but, spread them on a dry towel in full length. Then place a second towel overlay and apply pressure from the top, to get rid of excessive water. Then place your garment at a location free of heating sources.
Every piece of garment manufactured of or with wool has a label sown inside, containing maintenance instructions applicable to it.
Paying attention to the various symbols provided in such instructions will allow you to decide on the proper cleaning method to follow, that would help preserve the garment’s look, feel and structure.
